Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 2008, Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils

Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 2008, Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils

Although this winery's roots can be traced back to 1809, when Auguste Moreau built a cellar across from the Champs Gain vineyard, it was in the 1930s which saw the real expansion under Marcel Moreau, who acquired 80% of the domaine's current vineyard holdings. At just 14 years of age, Bernard Moreau took over the vineyards and cellar in the early 1960s, and by 1977 the reputation of this estate was fully established. Organic fertiliers and no pesticides are used in the vineyards, and pruning, debudding and green harvesting take place in August to achieve lower yields. Once harvested the wines are aged in French oak barrels (10-50% new oak), for 12-20 months, depending on the vineyard and vintage, with no racking, fining or filtration on the wines.
